How Apple could make a cheap iPhone

You should read John Gruber:
This “Apple should make a cheap iPhone” thing reminds me of the “Apple should make a cheap netbook” argument from four or five years ago.

To which he reminds us that Steve Jobs once said:
There are some customers which we chose not to serve...But we can continue to deliver greater and greater value to those customers that we choose to serve. And there’s a lot of them. We’ve seen great success by focusing on certain segments of the market and not trying to be everything to everybody.

Sorry, cheapos, you have to work harder and earn higher if you really want Apple stuff. Too lazy to do that? Okay, go ahead and blame it on the "social climbing" factor, if that's what you want to call it (I guess you call it that because indeed you're too lazy to climb the ladder.) But Apple ain't gonna make a cheap iPhone for you with the latest and greatest technology so that you can brag about it in front of your Gingerbread- or even ICS-toting friends. Unless, like I said, it's a totally different product just as the iPod shuffle is to the iPod touch.
