On people saying "Apple has no choice, it has to come out with an iPad mini."

Sorry to say but it seems you people don't know Apple just that well yet.

They don't do things because they have no choice. Some of you even quoted Jobs himself saying something like, "We make the best products, that's our goal."

That said, THEY ARE NOT MAKING A 7" TABLET. As the rumor mills are saying, they are making a 7.85" tablet. A 7" has 50% the screen size of their current iPad. A 7.85" has 67% of the screen size. So no, they're not going too small with the iPad "mini," as much as they are not going too big with the iPhone.

Also, they might not call it "iPad mini."

That said, so no, Apple won't be contradicting what Steve Jobs said. They're not making a 7-inch iPad. They're making something maybe like a 7.85-inch "iPlay" or something. Well, that last part is just my guess. But 7 and 7.85 inches are very different size categories.

Also, unlike Amazon (who would like to sell more stuff on their store) or Google (who would like to gain Android market share so that they can sell more ads), Apple is a company that makes its profits on the hardware. Amazon and Google are both selling their 8Gb 7-inchers at break-even or maybe even at a loss at US$200; they're desperate.

Why should Apple compete with these US$200 tablets? To compete with the desperate means you're desperate yourself. Apple is far from that. If they were, their new iPad would probably just $250. Why are they selling the iPads "too expensive"? Maybe some of you haven't heard, they're a corporation. Also, if you think iPads are too expensive, don't buy them. Also, if you think Apple should be doing certain things that they're not, you should try applying for work at Apple. Or hey, you can even e-mail their CEO: tcook@apple.com.

Could it be that these people saying "Apple must already sell an iPad mini!" are people just wanting to buy an iPad for cheap?

Meanwhile, Apple is already selling iPad 2 at $400, 9.7" screen and 16Gb. $400 is still heavy on the pocket, ain't it. They already have the iPod touch at $200, though. So it can probably sell the iPad mini at $300. Plus or minus $50. But then, it's not good for their bottomline. It will still be very low profit margins for them. So I really don't know. We'll see.

And as for you people, sorry, I think your dreams of a $200 iPad "mini" will remain dreams until maybe a year or two from now. But who knows - and that's one more thing you should learn about Apple, that no one really knows what they're up to. But we'll find out soon enough.
